Can I take the ASE test without any experience?

I have a genuine interest in automobiles, and mechanics, mathematics and physics in general. I have worked on all my own vehicles since a kid, and its always been a dream of mine to work in a shop and be a proffessional mechanic. But it just doesnt pay enough. I need to make good money. I know you always hear stories about someones brother that works for bmw and makes 6 figures a year. But this is very uncommon. Your average automechanic doesnt make much money. And I need to make good money. I like having the finer things in life and having a nice house. The ASE website says that its mandatory for you to have 2 years experience as a mechanic. and that theyll accept 1 years worth of credit if you had experience in highschool and whatnot. But what I wanna know is if i can just take the darn test anyways? I know if i go to the library and get some ase study material i can p that sucker with no problem. I just want to be able to say to people that i'm ASE certified. it would make me feel good ya know? and it would also make me feel good even if i didnt tell people. just personally accomplishing it would make me feel really great. thanks.
