Do onions make u cry more in AZ ?

I read that onions release sulfur compounds which react with the water in the eye to cause sulfuric acid which burns.I noticed that the burning sensation is more in Arizona than elsewhere.Could it be that in other places (with more atmospheric moisture) that some of the sulfur is dissipated before it reaches the eye while in AZ,due to its almost 0% humidity more undiluted sulfur reaches the eye? I'm curious to know if this is possible.
