Do the Star Trek aliens dislike gay people? The aliens always attack San Francisco!?
San Francisco is home to Starfleet. The writers put Starfleet in San Francisco because it is obvious to them that the city represents the future, whereas cities like New York, D.C., and Dallas are on a long, slow decline to oblivion.
